"Into the Woods"
by Jade Reynolds

Born on the East Coast, artist Jade Reynolds spent most of her youth in Manhattan and Los Angeles.
Early in her career Reynolds was an actor, model, and television special producer. In 1981 she met the love of her life, moved to Nashville, TN and never looked back. We recently sat down with Jade to hear more about her journey as an artist... check it out:

What led you to become an artist?
I had to paint. It wasn’t a choice. It brought me so much joy. My parents tried to get me to go to art school. Well, just the fact my parents wanted me to, was enough to refuse. I had to come to the decision myself to take my gifts seriously. I never went to art school, as I didn’t want to be influenced by teachers. I know artists that you can tell right off the bat who they took lessons from, as their art reflects the teacher’s style etc. So I basically just flew by the seat of my pants. Worked out pretty good.

What does an average day in your studio look like?
I have my dream studio I designed for our house, and it is heaven. It has windows north and south, and skylights, the lighting is bright and clean. The whole studio is painted pure white. I have been in the house 2 years. I get up early, take care of my animals (horses, chickens, cats and a dog), pour a cup of coffee and head to the studio.

I lose track of time here, it is my happy place. I work all day. Usually quit around 6 pm, I put the animals up, feed everyone and have a glass of wine and relax. I usually am working on multiple pieces at a time. It’s always exciting to me, I never run out of ideas.

How do you know when a painting is complete?
That’s a great question, and one I think all artists have to deal with. Abstracts are particularly tricky. It can so easily go from wonderful to looking like wallpaper if you overwork it. I just finished a piece, and I will live with it a couple days. I also  .… READ THE FULL NEWSLETTER
