Steve wheeler
Hendersonville, Tennessee
Steve grew up in Louisiana, but has lived in several different states throughout his life including Idaho, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and finally to Tennessee, where he and his wife have resided for the past 25 years. As his “real job”, Steve is a talented home designer, spending his time drawing plans for new construction as well as remodels.
“My experience with drawing houses has given me the ability to draw with proper perspective. This helps my paintings look more realistic.”
With a life-long interest in art and a passion for drawing, Steve has composed many pencil portraits, dabbled in oil painting - which he discovered was not his passion - and eventually discovered watercolor painting. His love of fishing, boating and nature have been fuel for his painting endeavors. With Tennessee’s incredible landscapes, historic barns and waterways, it offers prime scenery for his favorite way to paint: Plein Air Painting.
“My work requires precision and detail. When I started learning watercolor, I fell in love because it allowed me to freely express with my art without getting bogged down with fine details. My painting style is much more impressionistic compared to my drawings. I try to paint fast and loose, allowing the paint to work its magic. I am drawn to cityscapes and landscapes - especially seascapes, mountains, rivers, etc.”
